This is a movie I made for my English 363W class. My topic is international students and social media. As a Chinese student myself, I feel that a lot of Americans have an interest in learning about international students and their cultures, but sometimes people could be judgmental about international students as well. In the same manner, I see a lot of international students have a genuine interest to make friends and hang out with their American peers. Although it is relative easy to start a conversation, it is very difficult to keep the friendship and truly become a part of American society. As a result, people who share the same background love to hang out together and a lot of international students do not feel belongings in the U.S.
So in my video, I interviewed 3 international students — Karen, Muhammad, and Jeff — all come from different cultural backgrounds, talking about their experiences living in the U.S. In the video, they talked about their frustrations and difficulties, views of Americanization versus being unique, and the role of media in their life. As they have different characters and education backgrounds, they have different perspectives about American culture and the life styles they choose here.
This would be great opportunity to hear the voices of international students. Hope you can learn something new about international students and enjoy the video!
